Day 57: National Mend a Broken Heart Month

Feb 1–28. An annual observance sponsored by the nonprofit My Stuff Bags Foundation, National Mend a Broken Heart Month encourages individuals and groups to support America’s children who have been abused, neglected and abandoned by the very people who should love them most. These children must be rescued from their homes, often entering crisis shelters and foster care with no personal belongings. Abuse takes on many different forms, whether physical, mental, or emotional. Mistreatment knows no boundaries and can result in permanent pain or in worst cases, death. The rising rates of abuse are terrifying and if actions are not taken to prevent and stop abuse, the population may wonder one day what went wrong. Children are important for our future, for our well-being, for pro-creation, and for our happiness. If we continue to let child abuse grow in staggering numbers our future will not be as bright. We need to address this issue promptly and take necessary steps to prevent further abuse.

We are responsible to take care of our children. Let’s not wait until it is too late.

Imagine the trauma of being a child separated from all you know – parents, possessions and home – and not having anything to cling to for comfort. Sadly, each year, hundreds of thousands of children here in the United States must be rescued from severe abuse, neglect or abandonment. Traumatized and facing an uncertain future, they frequently enter shelters and foster care with nothing – no favorite stuffed animal, no special blanket. They are afraid, disoriented, and desperate for comfort. That’s where we come in.
The My Stuff Bags Foundation, with the help of thousands of people across the country, provides these unfortunate children with new belongings and new hope through its innovative “My Stuff Bags” program.

The My Stuff Bags Foundation provides new belongings, comfort and hope to thousands of children each year who must be rescued from abuse, neglect and abandonment across the United States. By rallying widespread individual and corporate involvement through their unique “My Stuff Bags” program, they address the immediate physical and emotional needs of rescued children, and help support the agencies caring for them.

The My Stuff Bags Foundation’s ultimate goal is to provide a My Stuff Bag filled with new belongings to each of the nearly 300,000 children each year who must enter crisis shelters and foster care with nothing of their own.
