Mar 1–31. This month is a special time to celebrate the joy of families singing, dancing and making music together. Family music-making supports children developmentally and helps form everlasting family bonds.
Sing With Your Child Month is celebrated every March, the beginning of Spring, which is symbolic of rebirth and growth. It is a reminder to nurture our most precious resource, our kids! Making music is fun, simple and free. Singing doesn’t require fancy equipment and a bowl and spoon or a tissue box and rubber bands can be most excellent instruments! Music enhances your child’s development and is special way to strengthen bonds in families and create lasting memories. The time spent and a bond between a parent and a child is very important. This month is all about spending time with your child and leaving memories that will last them forever.
Music is a great way to cheer up a sullen child. A quick round of the theme song to their favorite cartoon or TV show will put any child in a better mood. If your child has moved on to contemporary or pop music, find a group you can enjoy together and make a connection during those difficult 'tween and teen years.
Rock For Kids is a non-profit organization that provides support, hope, inspiration and assistance to underserved children and teens. Realizing that music can be a positive motivator in a young person’s life, Rock For Kids provides free year-round music education for children in need. Rock For Kids positively impacts and celebrates young lives by offering access to safe and constructive learning experiences through which children may challenge themselves, build self-esteem and explore their own creative potential.
Rock For Kids knows how important music is to the children they serve. They offer a consistent alternative to gangs and violence in some of the most underserved neighborhoods in Chicago. When their teachers see gang tattoos on eight year old students, or hear song lyrics written by a student expressing how she felt when her cousin was killed by gun violence, it has never been more clear why our programming is so important to these children.
