Day 20: National Cut Your Energy Costs Day

Day 20:  National Cut Your Energy Costs Day

Today is National Cut Your Energy Costs Day. Its goal is to “educate people on ways they can stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer while saving money on their energy bills.” By following a few easy steps, homeowners and renters can put a reasonable ceiling on their heating and cooling costs and stay comfortable. There are so many ways to reduce energy usage and costs around your home, from long-term investments, such as installing new heating and cooling systems, to easy fixes, such as unplugging your television.
The idea of conserving energy and saving money isn't new. But the idea of having a special day for this concept is relatively fresh — it only became an “unofficial” holiday in 2005.

The Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that advances innovative policy solutions that set us on a cleaner, more secure and sustainable energy path. EESI’s perspective is that the climate crisis is urgent, the solution is achievable, a healthy climate and a healthy economy go hand-in-hand, and energy prices must reflect their true cost. EESI's work would not be possible without the generous support of numerous individuals, foundations, and businesses.
