Day 21: Cigarettes Are Hazardous To Your Health Day

Cigarettes Are Hazardous To Your Health Day began in 1964 when the U.S. Surgeon General, Luther Terry, issued the first government report saying that smoking is hazardous to your health.  Since that time, organizations such as Anti-smoking.org, Smokefree America, and The Truth have continued to issue warnings about the hazards of smoking.  It is estimated that smoking-related diseases cause more than 440,000 American deaths annually, and costs the United States over $150 billion each year in health care costs.

Without question today’s donation will be given to The National Lung Cancer Partnership. The National Lung Cancer Partnership is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization originally formed in 2001 and officially incorporated in 2003. Their mission is to decrease deaths due to lung cancer and to help patients live longer and better through research, awareness and advocacy. The National Lung Cancer Partnership is a group of leading doctors, researchers, patient advocates, and lung cancer survivors who are working together to improve treatments for lung cancer patients. They are dedicated to raising public awareness of the disease and generating funding for lung cancer research.
They see accomplishing their mission by r
aising awareness of the deadly impact of lung cancer upon both women and men, by increasing funding for lung cancer research and by improving patient care by educating and empowering patients and healthcare professionals.

My mother passed away in 1988 from lung cancer. It was a battle I wish didn’t have to wage. I dedicate this, and honor her with my donation.

Donation: $5
